Dawn over Borneo is worthy of any 'Make the Most of Your Time on Earth' feature. A reasonable amount of planning needed but well within most 'average' hikers' reach.

It's hard to think of a more twilight zone destination than Turkmenistan. It receives fewer tourists than North Korea, is surreally resplendent in white marble and whose main attraction is the 'Door to Hell' flaming gas crater. That alone was enough to make me visit.

Yes, of course you should visit these but if you want a perfect car-free holiday, base yourself in the beautiful town of Certaldo, equidistant between the Big 3 and with culture, gastronomy and soul that is charm, even by Tuscan standards.
